K&B Mining yesterday partnered with the President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic II in the view that the meet, which is in its second year, will continue to provide quality athletics and an awareness of the importance of sport in the development of communities.
Chief Executive Officer of K&B Mining, in handing over a cheque to President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Colin Boyce yesterday stated that it is ironic that the meet is getting support from the mining sector since it will be held in the Mining Town.
The President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic will be held on Sunday at the McKenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden and is expected to attract Guyana’s leading athletes and clubs.
The contest is expected to commence at 2:00pm with most finals under floodlights.
The meet has attracted the participation of Guyana’s two-time Commonwealth Games medallist, Aliann Pompey, who arrives in Guyana today. Pompey is expected to clash with some of the best athletes in Guyana in the 200m race.
“We want to thank people like K&B for making all this possible. We hope that their contribution continue to help the President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic grow into the best track and field meet in the Caribbean,” Boyce said at the company’s Regent Street office.
He said that he will ensure that the standards set in the first edition of the meet last year are well kept and that all sponsors are happy with the final product.
Boyce indicated that the Coordinators of the event are working overtime to ensure memorable championships.
