– Jeffrey relishing battle with Summerbell and Gore
A formidable Guyana contingent including drivers and riders left the country yesterday to participate in the first leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) at Dover Speedway in Jamaica.
The Guyanese will be spearheaded by local defending Group 4 champion Kevin Jeffrey, who finished runner-up to Jamaican David Summerbell Jnr in the CMRC last year, 2-wheel drive Group 4 Caribbean champion Paul Vieira, Raj and Chet Singh, Gavin and Ryon Gayadin, Afraz Allie, Rajendra Ramrattan, Maurice Menezes, Stephen Vieira and John Joseph.
“We’ve got a perfect chance to do well again this year, we are sending our last year champion Kevin Jeffrey, who I think will be very competitive, while the other guys are all prepared and eager to represent their country and return with outstanding results,” President of the Guyana Motor racing & Sports Club Raj Boodhoo told this newspaper last night.
Guyana for the first in a long time will be without the experienced Andrew King, while former champion Mark Vieira has also opted out of the trip.
This year the CMRC has added the Group 2A&B categories and it will be interesting to see how local drivers Chet and Raj Singh, Afraz Allie and John Joseph perform, while the Gayadin brothers should be extremely competitive in the Group 3 division.
The Meet will be held on Monday.
