Imran Mohamed Khan, also known as ‘Willy’, 26, of Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje, Berbice took his life on Sunday evening at his aunt’s residence.
The young man drank a quantity of gramoxone and was admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he died.
Khan had apparently been drinking on Sunday and left for his aunt’s house, located in the same area. He would normally go there to turn on lights.
No one else was at home at that time. Khan reportedly told a few friends shortly before he left them Sunday night that he was going home to drink poison and that they would not hear from him again.
This newspaper understands that the reason why Khan committed suicide remains under wraps, but it is widely suspected that he had some issues with a female, who allegedly broke off the relationship last weekend.
He leaves to mourn his mother, Neeta; father, Alim and sister, Hannah.
And Ravendra Jaipaul, also known as ‘Loverboy’ and ‘Ravi’, of Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant, Corentyne, also committed suicide earlier this week.
The boy, who assisted his father with animal farming, was apparently sent to tend to some sheep in the Miss Phoebe back dam area. His father arrived some time later at the back dam and did not see him there.
Jaipaul’s father later found him with friends, apparently consuming alcohol, and proceeded to slap the young man.
Jaipaul left, went home, and drank a quantity of gramoxone. No one was at home at the time.
He was admitted to a private hospital in the city after which he succumbed. He was cremated on Wednesday.
