– despite unbeaten century from Guyanese Cornelius
An unbeaten century from former Guyana under-19 Captain Troy Cornelius in the final round of action last Sunday failed to prevent Queens Park from being crowned Champions of the Eastern Credit Union Cricket League in Trinidad.
The left-handed Cornelius scored 101 not out but this was not enough for Central Sports to take first innings points in the drawn game as Queens Park finished with the most points in the tournament to take the title.
At Queen’s Royal College ground, Queens Park won the toss and made a massive total 410 all out with their captain Justin Guillen, the T&T left-handed opener, scoring 169.
Nicholas Alexis 87, Runako Morton 47 also batted well as Windward Islands left-arm spinner Gary Mathurin grabbed 5 for 86 and John Ross Jaggesar 4 for 100 for Central Sports who reached 205-9 innings closed with Cornelius, who now resides in Trinidad, being the only batsman to pass 25. Bowling for Queen’s Park, T&T players Sunil Narine took 3 for 29, Amit Jaggernauth 3 for 75 and Ricardo Patty 2 for 27.
At Gilbert Park, Guyana Keeper Derwin Christian slammed a pugnacious 80 to lead Clico Preysal to first innings points over W Connection Wanders, while at Point Lisas Moosai lost outright to T& Tec.
Moosai made 171 all out with Mario Belcon scoring 41 and former Guyana and West Indies leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo making 26.
T& Tec in reply reach 329 all out with Denesh Ramdin scoring103, Kevon Cooper 56, Richard Kelly 54 and Guyana’s Steven Jacobs 29. Bowling for Moosai, Nagamootoo, who played five Tests, had 4 for 102. Moosai batting second time, made 149 to loose by an innings and nine runs.
