The Second edition of the Ramcharitar Associated Construction Service (RACS) 40 overs first division knock-out cricket tournament was launched on Friday last at the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) office in New Amsterdam sponsored by Mr. Anirud Ramcharitar of Friendship Village at the cost of $220, 000.
BCB Public Relations Officer Hilbert Foster at the presentation ceremony said that this tournament will feature the following clubs – West Berbice Cricket Association, Blairmont Community Centre, Edinburgh, Bermine, Police Sports Club, Young Warriors, Albion Community Centre, Rose Hall Community Centre, Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets, Port Mourant, Scottsburg United and Skeldon Community Centre.
The tournament would involve several of the county’s leading players who will all be available. Foster expressed gratitude to Ramcharitar for his continued sponsorship of the tournament, informing him of the massive strides Berbice Cricket have made as a result of the support of numerous sponsors including RACS.
He disclosed that Sewnarine Chattergoon, Royston Crandon, Assad Fudadin and Rajiv Ivan are all expected to be part of the tournament.
Board Treasurer Anil Beharry praised Ramcharitar for staying the course despite the severe economic challenges and pledged his Board’s continued commitment in ensuring that the tournament is well organised and all funds accounted for.
The soft spoken Anirud Ramcharitar expressed his delight in being associated with Berbice Cricket as he was fully aware of the progress taking place in the Ancient County. Albion CC won the inaugural tournament last year defeating Rose Hall town Gizmos & Gadgets. The competition is expected to bowl off in late June.
