Young Achievers confirmed their status as the No.1 team in Demerara when they defeated Castrol Strikers in straights sets 25-21, 25-22, 25-20 in the second game of the best of three series to determine the top seed in the County on Saturday, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The contest which saw a small crowd in attendance never lacked entertainment as both teams despite the limited activity witnessed in the game recently showed admirable standard with the likes of Achievers Randy Adams, Christopher Ramsundar and setter Khemraj Singh was exceptional, while Strikers Adolph Davis, Desta Hoppie and company were also special, but lacked the extra support to take them over the edge.
All three matches went down to the wire with the Achievers holding their nerves just enough to pull off the win.
Adams once again was unstoppable as he delivered some booming spikes and even supported on the defence with a few timely blocks to keep his team ahead all the way, while Davis and the energetic Hoppie tried their level best to help Strikers stay in contention.
However, in the end, Achievers which is regarded as the best team in Guyana managed to maintain their focus and take the series 2-0 and the right to be deemed the best team in Demerara.
Achievers go into the final leg of the tournament confident having already secured the No.1 ranking with victories in legs 1 and 2.
The final leg is scheduled to play in 2 weeks time at the same venue.
Meanwhile, the Demerara Volleyball Association is in the process of finalising the plans for other tournaments, including a Beach Volley Ball Tournament to be held this summer.
