Schoolboy killing…
As police continue their investigation into the death of 12-year-old Shemroy Anthony, the relatives of the other lad involved has sought to clear their side of the story.
Yesterday, the mother of the other lad involved, Joy John, admitted that the two children were involved in a fight. However, in her presence, the 11 year-old denied that at any point during the ‘brawl’ he picked up a piece of wood and lashed Anthony.
According to the 11 year-old, the fight started after Anthony began calling him a girl.
The lad recalled that after Anthony called him a girl there was an argument and a grown up who was around said, “Why you got da boy calling you a girl?” Some time after, during a game of cricket, the lad said the fight started and there was some amount of hitting.
The lad’s mother said that she is saddened at Anthony’s death but claimed that a thorough investigation needs to be done. The woman claimed that Anthony was a victim of child abuse from his stepfather and that many persons in the area can testify to this.
“I know there was a fight but that child use to get beat like a big man from he stepfather…That man would cuff that child up in he belly, beat he terrible,”. The woman said that her son has also been receiving threats from the Anthony’s family.
In the meantime the woman said that she will await the results of the police investigation and the post mortem examination.
On May 2 last, 12-year-old Shemroy Anthony was involved in a fight with an 11 year-old. Anthony’s parents say that ever since the fight the child was complaining of severe stomach aches and headaches but no proper examination was done by the doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
On Tuesday last, the child who is a former student of the St Georges High School, died moments after being rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
