Much action is anticipated when Kares Engineering and Bushy Park Sawmills stage a countrywide knockout T/10 tapeball cricket tournament, billed as the biggest ever locally staged event. Registration commenced on May 5 last and continues up to June 5 next. Play commences one week after the culmination of the registration period.
The tournament is organized in collaboration with the Guyana Softball League (GSL) and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and teams would be competing for 6 million dollars in cash and prizes. The response so far has been encouraging and the sponsors have indicated that they have decided to plug a substantial sum into the event. Additionally, admission into the tournament is free since the sponsors have acquiesced to offset the relevant expenses. These include balls, umpires’ outfit, officials and the grounds identified for playing of matches. This tournament will be conducted in two categories, males and females. Prizes are as follows:
Males: 1st – $1,000,000 and trophy; 2nd – $400,000 and trophy; 3rd – $200,000 and trophy; 4th – $100,000 and trophy; Man of the tournament – One scooter; Man of the match (final) – One Scooter; Best bowler – $25,000; Highest Individual score $25,000; zone winners – $10,000 plus trophy. There will also be other incentives.
The females will compete for a first prize of $500,000 and trophy, while the second place finishers receive $250,000 and trophy. Other prizes include: Woman of match (final) – One Scooter; Best bowler individual figures – $10,000; Highest Individual score – $10,000; Zone winners – $10,000 plus trophy as well as other incentives.
Registration forms can be uplifted from the Guyana Softball League representatives who will be identified via press releases. The rules of the tournament can also be uplifted from respective area representatives.
Organizers are confident that the tournament would build the social cohesion in communities and are urging participants and fans to use the forum to create harmony within the various communities.
Officials of the Guyana Softball League have only just finished coordinating the highly successful GT&T 10/10 softball cricket tournament and have a strong input into this tournament. The rules of the tournament are consistent with other tournaments of similar nature.
