The Ministry of Public Works and Communications recently upgraded the Kamarang airstrip, Region Seven, to a tune of over $19M, Alphonso Mangah, Assistant Aviation Inspector Aerodrome, has said.
The Kamarang airstrip was constructed in the 1970s. It undergoes continuous rehabilitation and maintenance and it provides services to hinterland residents and miners.
The contract was awarded to Narindra Latchman and upgrading works to the airstrip commenced last November. It was completed last week Wednesday.
According to Mangah, the scope of works involved overlaying the 3,000-foot runway with bitumen surface. The defects liability period is six months and on Friday last Mangah and Engineers inspected the site.
The Ministry is currently constructing a $58M airstrip at Bemichi, Region One. It is expected to conclude the works by June month-end.
