Stakeholders impressively launch President’s / Jefford Track & Field Classic

– Sponsors promise continued support
Attended by senior representatives of the two major sponsors Digicel and Ansa McAl in addition to Parliamentary Secretary attached to the Ministry of Sport Steve Ninvalle and a wide cross section of mainstream media, the second edition of the President’s /Jefford Track & Field Classic was impressively launched yesterday in the Boardroom of Digicel Head Office in Kingston yesterday.
Representing Gold sponsor Digicel were Head of Marketing Jacqueline James, Public Relations Manager Shonnet Moore, Business Development and Sponsorship Manager Gavin Hope, Ansa McAl’s Marketing Assistant Anjeta Hinds, President of the Athletic Association of Guyana Colin Boyce, Co-ordinator of the event Edison Jefford and participating athletes.
Ninvalle, who was the first to give remarks, immediately took the opportunity to congratulate the organisers for putting together such an important event, adding that he see it as going forward and becoming one of the premier track and field competitions to be organised locally.
Ninvalle said that he hopes that the Classic in due time could evolve to the extent that foreign participation would force it to be staged at the soon to be completed synthetic track which is being laid by the Government over at Leonora.
He pointed out that the Ministry and the Government are always in support of such activities and he envisions someday the Classic will become one of the epic showpieces on the athletics calendar.
Moore speaking on behalf of her Company spoke of their continued commitment to the event, adding that they were eager to hear about Guyana’s leading international athlete Aliann Pompey confirmation to participate in the Meet.
She too promised the Company’s future support for the Classic.
Hinds in her remarks reiterated the sentiments expressed earlier about the Classic growing popularity and how it could evolve into a mega event.
She give a brief account about the brand they choose to associate with the event, pointing out that because it is an athletic Meet that will see athletes utilise much energy, the Nurishment Milk Drink is primary used to replenish lost energy so it is a fitting product for the participants.
Hinds said she felt that the event is just one stepping stone in making Track and field in Guyana an exciting activity and urged the organisers to better last year’s performance.
She extended thanks to the Organisers for inviting Ansa McAl to be part of the event and promised continued support.
Boyce in his presentation spoke of the birth of the Classic, disclosing that it was borne out of positive thinking between himself and Jefford which has grown into a full fledged Meet which has now involved one of the leading middle distance runners in the world.
He thanked Digicel, Ansa McAl and all the other sponsors associated with the event for their patronage and promised a high class event that would meet the approval of sponsors, fans and well wishers alike.
Boyce said that the clubs will be vying for healthy financial rewards for their efforts which in effect will place them in a stronger position monetarily.
