Dear Editor,
I was hesitant to respond to Harry Gill and his sorts, who find pleasure in attacking the credibility of someone, whose credibility is unquestionable. Gill is a ‘confusionist’ and desperately attempts to induce and lure unsuspecting and innocent readers into his web of baloney.
Mr. Editor, I would be doing an injustice to truth and to the thousands of veterans who served this country with distinction, but are rewarded with defamation and marginalisation. Let me say that if David Granger has blood on his hands, then, all those who served during his tenure have blood on their hands.
Let me focus first on President Jagdeo, who Santa has forgotten. Let me inform the misinformed that this missive is accurate and first hand account of what transpired in the year 1973, which is the President’s campaign clarion battle cry that emanated out of the his mouth at Babu John, and is similar to the one made by Dr. Cheddi Jagan at every political meeting held on the Corentyne, leading up to the elections of 1973.
Mr. Editor, Dr Jagan went further and aggressively urged the gathering that even if it cost their lives, they must at all cost prevent the soldiers from removing the ballot boxes. This they attempted which resulted in death. If Dr Jagan did not have blood on his hands and should have been held accountable then leave Granger alone.
Let me inform and remind readers that Dr Jagan was no saint as some supporters want us to believe by honouring and idolizing a man who Eusi Kwyana knew well, when he wrote in the letter columns of the newspapers, not so long ago.
Mr. Editor, rigging is no stranger to the PPP; they rigged their own elections against Balram Singh Rai, in favour of Brindley Benn. What are the issues that the PPP can debate and find favour with intelligent Guyanese? It is advisable that President Jagdeo leaves Granger alone; the more you try to tarnish his image the more he gets over to the masses.
Does President Jagdeo honestly believe that no one is alive who witnessed the events as they unfolded? The President should tell the nation who assassinated Constable Henry whilst on duty at the Toll Station on the Corentyne. He has a convenient memory.
There are veterans who reside at St Cuthbert’s Mission, who also have first hand information about what took place and will soon grace the letter columns of the newspapers with the facts.
Mr. Editor, a Commission of Inquiry was held on the instructions of Forbes Burnham. Doodnauth Singh, the former Attorney General of this regime presented the case for the PPP, whilst the defence was headed by no other than JOF Haynes. After weeks of argument on both sides, the Commission found that no one was culpable for those two deaths.
In due time Mr. Editor, a copy of the findings of the Commission will be made available to your column and I hope this will silence President Jagdeo on this issue.
