– YK Investments invest in prestigious competition again
The President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic continued to receive corporate support yesterday when YK Investments invested in the prestigious athletics competition. YK Investments joined a group of notable sponsors for the second consecutive year.
The President’s/Jefford Classic is expected to be officially launched today at 2pm where details to host the Second Edition of what is developing into a major showdown in Linden to decide the best athletes in the country, among other plans, will unfold.
The Launch is scheduled for Digicel, who is the main sponsor of the event, Head Office on Fort and Barrack Street, Kingston. Officials from all major stakeholders, clubs, athletes and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport are expected to be present at the launch.
Meanwhile, in disclosing their support for the second year, proprietor of YK Investments, Harry Yenkana believed that it is important that the business entity continue to partner with the event as it grows into what he described as “a very big sports competition”.
“I think this event will be very big in the future and YK wants to ensure that it is there from the start to help grow the sport. We know that with enthusiast like Edison (Jefford), the sport will go very, very far,” Yenkana told Kaieteur Sport yesterday.
His son, Marlon, added that to have an event that has grown so much in two years is something that is remarkable and should be supported. He said that the event is attempting to do things that were never done before and perhaps those are the risks required to succeed.
“This is an event we know from the very beginning, and we have seen how much our investment has benefitted both of us. We were eager to get back onboard, and had no problem throwing our weight behind this one-of-a-kind event,” Marlon indicated.
Asked about the support of YK, Jefford informed that the company is an aggressive enthusiast of sports in Guyana. Jefford, who is one of the Coordinators of the event, said that the standards and professionalism associated with the President’s/Jefford Classic are convincing.
“We have strong principles when it comes to accountability. We have no problems in revealing a lot of our administrative and other responsibilities to our sponsors; we tie everything down to the last iota and ensure our sponsors know how their monies are spent,” Jefford said.
He observed that with the continued support of sponsors, the President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic is well on its way to ensuring that athletics is recognised as what it really is: a mega global sport that is deserving of a rightful place among the top sports in Guyana.
