GFF names squad of 29; return game set for Barbados on May 29
The Golden Jaguars will be in action on May 22 against their rivals from the Land of the Flying Fish – Barbados – in the first game of a home and away two-game Goodwill series on Sunday May 22 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
According to Organising Secretary of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major, the games will be used to expose a number players who will be representing Guyana in the Olympic Under-23 qualifiers as well as the World Cup qualifying campaign.
“We are using a number of our young players who will be eligible for the Olympic campaign and at the same time the Technical staff will also be having a look at them for World Cup action as well. Since the date is not a FIFA date, a number of our regular players, the likes John Rodrigues, Gregory Richardson and Walter Moore among others, would not be able to get the time off to play but they are very much a part of the programme going forward,” Major informed.
A total of twenty-nine (29) players have been invited by the Technical Committee headed by GFF Technical development Officer Lyndon France, which includes players based in the USA, England, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname and locally.
A number of other players will be on Caribbean Football Union Club Championship Cup duties with Alpha United which will be hosting Tempete FC of Haiti and T&T’s Defence Force on May 23 and 25.
Head Coach of the team is former National striker Collie ‘Hitman’ Hercules who will be assisted by Jimmy McLean. Goalkeeper Coach is Andrew Hazel; Physio – Michelle Jackman; Physical Trainer Sgt. Jermaine Craig; Equipment Manager – Keith O’Jeer.
