Manager and Chief Mechanic of Team Best Buy, Mark Barker, speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday, disclosed that they are brimming with confidence ahead of the opening Meet of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) which is scheduled to start on May 23, at Dover Speedway in Jamaica.
Barker, who has responsibility for ensuring that brothers Chet and Raj Singh’s Honda Civics are supremely prepared for race day said that the cars are in perfect condition and the team is optimistic about its chances at the upcoming Meet.
He added that because the sport is so uncertain, they are taking no chances and have sent along two spare engines just in the event of any unforeseen circumstances.
The Singh brothers will be campaigning in the recently admitted Group 2A Division and according to Barker, they are relishing the opportunity to compete on the regional circuit and have been leaving nothing to chance in relation to their preparations.
Chet, who is based here have been a consistent performer over the years and showed his ability once again at the Guyana Motor racing & Sports Club opening Meet registering two victories and a second place, while Raj, who resides overseas has also been in rich form very early, recording a first and two second places at the same event.
Barker said that Raj’s performance since graduating from the Rookie category recently has been impressive and he is definitely one to look out for the future.
He informed that the team is set to depart for the island on May 20 and hope to get some valuable track time and circuit acclimatisation in time for race day.
Meanwhile, the other members of the touring party are: last year’s CMRC runner-up Kevin Jeffrey, Gavin and Ryon Gayadin, Canada-based Paul Vieira, Stephen Vieira, Afraz Allie, Rajendra Ramrattan, Maurice Menezes and John Joseph.
The Guyanese will be hoping to return with maximum points to boost their chances of maintaining the Caribbean crown they won last year.
