The Office of the President/Ramotar saga is highly unethical

Recent statement by the PPP/C that Donald Ramotar will not be paid for his new position in the Office of the President, amounts to nothing but ‘bare hogwash’. Do Ramotar, Jagdeo and the PPP/C honestly believe that Guyanese will actually believe this unadulterated falsity?
There is too much ‘change’ from the laptop scam for Ramotar not to get pay. According to the PPP/C Ramotar has been acting informally as Jagdeo’s advisor. If this is so why make it official and formal now, after he has been picked to be the party’s presidential candidate? The conclusion is that by doing this it will increase his access to state resources to run his campaign, so if he is not physically taking a salary, far from the truth, that salary will be transferred to his campaign.
Dr. Luncheon’s statement, in defence of Ramotar’s appointment, demonstrates the dictatorial, immoral and unethical culture of this regime. This Cabinet Secretary had the nerve to tell the nation that “the fact that the President, has the authority to exercise such powers” to appoint advisor then the appointment of Donald Ramotar, now, is proper and decent.
This is a classic display of the unsophisticated and uncultured characteristics he lamented of in his press conference. I believe it was this same kind of thinking that led their teaming up with, the now convicted, drug lord Roger Khan. They matter not; how unethical, immoral, unsavory or illegal it may appear. No consideration is given as to the larger negative impact their action is likely to have on the nation, as a whole, with the dangerous precedents they set.
It is sad and very worrying, though, that a man who aspires to become the leader of this country would embrace such unethical practices, and accepts this appointment. Again, this speaks to character of the man.
Dr. Luncheon’s admission that, for the last 10 years Donald Ramotar was President Jagdeo’s ‘informal advisor’ is a damning revelation. It therefore, means that Donald Ramotar was a key player in the massive corrupt practices of this government. It also means that with Donald Ramotar’s advice Jagdeo refused to implement or support the idea of a comprehensive crime fighting strategy. It is also clear that Jagdeo received Ramotar’s advice on matters of the economy, hence the destruction of the rice, sugar and bauxite industries, among other economic failures.
Guyanese are now aware as to what role Ramotar played in the destruction of Guyana. For those of us who did not know the Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon, informed us, via his press conference, that the current PPP/C presidential candidate, offered ’back door’ advice to Bharrat Jagdeo, the President on all matters.
Luncheon has given Guyanese every reason to reject the PPP/C and Ramotar at the polls, unless of course, we have not had enough of their ‘badness’. Unless, of course, we haven’t seen enough innocent blood shed, enough children go hungry, enough corruption, enough immorality, enough citizens victimized and discriminated against, unless of course we have grown so accustomed to bad governance that we are prepared to see their rule as just another bad karma.
I say enough is enough, time to stop the bleeding.
