A police Lance Corporal attached to the East Coast Demerara Anti Crime Unit lost his leg Thursday evening around 18:00 hrs following a horrific smash-up on the Success Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
Ellary Mason, a father of six children, had his right leg amputated above the knee after it was smashed beyond reconstruction, as a result of collision with a motor car.
Speaking to Kaieteur News yesterday, the recuperating Mason recalled that while riding his motorcycle to Georgetown, the driver of the car was heading at a speed in the opposite direction. He said that the driver drove his car into Mason’s lane and crashed into his bike.
The grieving Mason, who is currently a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), stated that he was devastated and cried at the sight of his missing leg.
Nonetheless, he is optimistic about continuing to serve the Guyana Police Force as he has been doing for the past 14 years.
Mason is of the belief that the “accident” was premeditated. The suspect is in police custody and investigations are ongoing.
