Several hauler/truck operators have expressed their concern and total dissatisfaction over what they consider to be the unfair charges that they are made to pay both at the Mackenzie/Wismar Bridge and the Mackenzie toll booth.
Mahase Persaud, who owns three trucks, pointed out that it is only in Linden that they are forced to pay both road and bridge toll.
“Now this is not fair to us. We already have to spend so much money on licence—$35,000 per year. Then there is the insurance.
This is really hard on us because sometimes when we coming out the interior, we don’t even have money, but we got to find this money somehow to pay these people.” At the toll booth at Mackenzie, there is no signboard or anything, but they demand $5,000 for containers and between $3,000 and $4,000 for logs, and we have to pay this money despite having paid the bridge toll which is $3,000.
This is totally unfair, and I think it is about time that someone in authority look into this situation’, the peeved man declared.
Efforts to contact the Linden Town Clerk for a comment proved futile.
