Dear Editor,
This year has been designated “Year of People of African Ancestry”. One would suppose that the African collective in the Guyana context, will seek to, inter alia, consolidate their gains and, more importantly, chart a course for positive individual and collective development.
Sadly, however, the thrust seems to be how much freebies can be collected using the guise of the designated year. In the end, a few pockets will be lined and the masses will be no better off. History has recorded this, although some people conveniently reject history.
One of our signal “achievement” as a collective is to continuously produce what is being glaringly seen; criminals. 90% of violent criminals are blacks.
Will the black leadership deny this fact too?
Check the prison population; check school dropouts; check the single-mother population; check the criminal population. We are at the top of the list.
Talk to victims of robberies and relatives of those murdered during robberies. This is the legacy which our Black leadership has been silent on. ACDA has never made a statement condemning this criminality, but would quickly pontificate when a black bandit is killed by the police.
Marginalisation, discrimination, lack of jobs and single parents, all these are red herrings.
Being a black man myself, I think robbing people has become a culture in our collective. Even school boys and girls are robbing people. Is this how we are recognising the year of Black ancestry?
Black leaders, I am saying here without fear of objective contradiction: We are robbing and killing people; we have blood on our hands. We will eventually shed tears of blood. And you, the leadership, will be responsible. You are condoning wrong things by your silence and destroying the black people in the process. Harsh, but true!
