The Guyana Chess Federation on Wednesday last received a boost of ten junior chess sets from the Haynes Foundation of New Jersey, U.S.A.
President and co-founder of the non-profit organization, Paul Haynes, presented the sets to Shiv Nandalall, President of the local chess body at the El Dorado Inn Hotel in Georgetown.
Haynes, also a Guyanese living abroad, remarked that chess plays an integral role in discipline and Mathematics and he sees the donation as an opportunity to de-centralize and promote chess among young people.
Nandalall, while expressing gratitude for the boost, pledged that the chess sets would become available to young players, who happen to be the main targets of the Chess Federation.
