May 04, 2011 Letters
Dear Editor,
I am referring to Norman Browne’s May 3, 2011 Kaieteur News letter, “I am not a blind ‘clown’ performing in a circus of lies and oppression”. I am amused that Norman Browne would go to such lengths to convince myself and the public that he is not a “blind clown”, while insisting, that he is unable to support his accusations of African’s living conditions in Guyana.
Norman Browne is unable to give evidence of the accusations he is making, and claims that I should not ask him to do so, since it is insulting to him for me to do so.
To be completely honest, Norman Browne has certainly displayed the characteristics of a ‘blind clown’, his words.
It is clear that Norman Browne cannot provide any evidence to support these accusations, and instead of making a sensible argument, once again he utilizes only blind rhetoric.
His letter is filled with unsubstantial ‘hear say’, and he expects that the public should take him at his word, and blindly agree with everything that he says.
His most recent letter is premised extensively on a speech given by Rupert Roopnaraine in the United States.
Browne posits that since Roopnaraine told them at a gathering that Africans in Guyana are poor and are discriminated and marginalized against, then this must be the case.
I am unaware that Rupert Roopnaraine is God that he cannot lie; or that everything that he says is exactly as is. Even so, evidence is a necessary precondition for policy formulation.
Norman Browne, is 38 years old. I am yet to see the relevance of his age to this debate, must understand the ignorance of his entire letter. Anybody can make wild accusations.
The important thing is proving that what you are saying is indeed the case.
I have challenged Norman Browne to provide evidence of what he is saying because until he does so, we cannot move forward. So Norman Browne says there is a problem in Guyana where Africans are systematically disadvantaged.
Until Norman Browne can show me exactly where this problem is, his thoughts cannot be taken seriously. Anyone can say this or that is the case, but until such a time as they produce the needed evidence to corroborate their claims, they cannot be taken seriously.
In the same way that Browne claims that Africans are marginalized in a particular manner, the next person who may be of a different ethnic origin, may say that their kind is experiencing the same kind of marginalization.
I am an African-Guyanese, and I understand the difficulties that we face daily, but many of my friends who are of different ethnicities also face similar challenges. Norman Browne will not give evidence to support his claims, simply because he cannot.
