C’tyne man shot by bandits while praying in Mandir

A Corentyne businessman is being treated for a gunshot wound to his left side hip, thanks to three bandits who invaded his home around 20:50 hours on Monday.
Forty seven-year-old Beshram Persaud is presently a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was rushed immediately after the bandits left.
Police said that Persaud and his wife Vidya were robbed of a quantity of gold and diamond jewellery of significant value during the 10-minute ordeal by three men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
According to information reaching this newspaper, the businessman’s wife was in the kitchen, while her husband and their two children were praying in their Mandir which is situated in the lower flat of their house.
Vidya Persaud claimed that she heard a gunshot and shouted for help, but was confronted by two of the men, one of whom held a gun to her head.
The terrified woman told them to take whatever they wanted and they proceeded to snatch jewellery that was on a microwave oven in the kitchen and made good their escape.
Mrs. Persaud did not know that the men had already accosted her husband.
She got the shock of her life when she went look for husband and found him lying on the ground bleeding from a wound on his left side hip. He told her that the bandit shot him.
He was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was referred to the New Amsterdam Hospital and admitted a patient.
Police searched the area and recovered a 9mm magazine containing 14 live 9mm rounds and a 9mm spent shell.
Investigations are continuing.
Meanwhile, police have arrested a 24-year-old man from Crabwood Creek in connection with another robbery committed on a contractor at 64 Springlands, Corriverton, Berbice, also on Monday.
Information reaching this newspaper stated that Ravindra Hanoman called Ravi, 31, was robbed of two gold chains and two gold bands with a total value of $1M at around 22:45 hours.
Kaieteur News understands that about 21:50 hours on Monday, Hanoman went to visit a friend at Crabwood Creek.
The contractor claimed that he fell asleep in a hammock in the verandah on the upper flat of his friend’s house and was later awakened by two men who relieved him of the mentioned jewellery he was wearing at the time.
The men escaped but intense investigation led to the arrest.
