As more drivers are being cautioned not to “drink and drive” or not to “speed on the roadways”, there seem to be those who wish not to adhere to those rules.
As such around 10:45hrs yesterday, one driver was speeding along the East Bank Demerara Public Road while it was raining, and slammed into three other vehicles.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of a white motor-car PLL 4937 was operating his vehicle at a fast rate of speed heading in a northerly direction, towards the capital city, when he overtook another vehicle just after passing the Diamond Cemetery and lost control of his vehicle due to the wet road.
Reports are that the car then slammed into a burgundy-coloured minibus BGG 9113 which was said to be transporting passengers along the East Bank Demerara route toward the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
The minibus is registered to the name “Robert Lewis” of lot 36 La Grange Village, West Bank Demerara but this newspaper understands that the owner of the minibus was not the driver at the time of the accident.
The impact caused motor-car PLL 4937 to skid into a dark-coloured motor-car PLL 5873 which was directly behind minibus BGG 9113, and then collided with motor-cycle CF 7842 which was the other vehicle behind the dark-coloured motor-car.
Kaieteur News understands that after slamming into these three vehicles, motor-car PLL 4937 then spun in the middle of the road between both lanes of traffic and eventually stopped facing the opposite direction in which it was originally heading to.
This resulted in a heavy build up of traffic on the already congested East Bank Public Road where vehicles were forced to remain in the lines until traffic ranks could regulate the flow of traffic once more.
None of the drivers or passengers involved in the accident was seriously injured, however; the driver of minibus BGG 9113 received minor injuries to his stomach and the motor-cyclist sustained injuries on his left hand.
They were all taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital where they were treated and sent away.
