Controversy surrounds the sale of a plot of land in Roxanne Burnham Gardens given to residents for the construction of a playfield when the scheme started.
Angry residents yesterday stopped development works which started on the land following the opening of the scheme.
One resident, Juliet Julian, yesterday told Kaieteur News that persons in the community would not allow the business company to take over the land.
The woman explained the area was given to the community for a playfield and not for commercial purposes.
Julian further stated that no one from the requisite authority contacted any of the residents. Kaieteur News was told by residents that it was Gregory Erskine, an engineer, who gave permission for the works to start. Another resident, Stephie Allen, said that she had applied for the land, but never got a response from the Mayor and City Council. That was a year ago.
The woman said that she had even sent in a plan, but got no response. A number of residents who were present yesterday said that they were not allowing any business entity to come and build on the land.
