Family members of the 12-year-old girl who was brutally raped by her father on April 27, is strongly advocating that he receive the requisite penalty, designated by law, whenever he is captured.
The 37-year-old has since eluded police and remains at large. Relatives of the man however believe that the man, who they described as both an alcoholic and a drug addict, will revisit Supenaam to harm the family.
“We are now scared to sleep at nights the suspect has threatened to kill us and throw poison in our water,” Margaret, the suspect’s sister told Kaieteur News.
Margaret, who contacted this newspaper, on Friday, said that her brother had previously raped another close relative. The first incident, she said, was played down by her family.
Also speaking to this newspaper was Eve Smith, the suspect’s reputed wife of 18 years. Eve who had traveled to the Essequibo Coast to take her four younger children into her care, returned to her family’s residence at Supenaam after she was alerted to the incident, involving her reputed husband and daughter.
The woman, who also said that she had endured 18years of physical abuse from her reputed husband, said that what her husband did to her child was cruel.
According to Eve, her husband’s act was to gain her attention, since she had walked out of the troubled relationship over two weeks ago.
“He always threatened to harm me and my children and even had vowed to cause harm to my 12-year-old even before she was born.”
Eve said that her 12-year-old endured numerous physical assaults from her father at a young age, all because her husband claimed that the child was not his.
Upon her return, on Friday, Eve visited the Aurora Police Station and submitted her daughter’s bloodstained clothes. She also submitted a written statement.
According to relatives, the 12-year-old and her three younger siblings, who were all in their father’s care, was asleep when she was ordered out of her sleep to make some tea for her siblings and father.
Margaret said that after Terrence had consumed the tea, he lured his daughter to a dam, where he had sex with her.
The child, Margaret said, later in the following morning, told the family what her father did. A medical examination was also performed on the child.
