Saints Girls' Basketball Team pose for an opportunity at their school court before taking on the rest of competing schools in the YBG event this weekend.
The Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Organisation will be staging their Girls’ Basketball Development Jamboree this weekend at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The event is set to commence tomorrow at 12:30 and will include the participation of Saint Stanislaus College, Marian Academy, Charlestown Secondary, New Campbellville Secondary, a Berbice combined team and Sport Hall Cluster (a compilation of girls that practice at the Sports Hall).
The programme is open to all girls hoping to learn the sport. President of YBG, Chris Bowman said the intention of the programme is to help stimulate progress in Girls’ basketball locally.
“The programme is a focused effort to create a launching pad for junior girls’ basketball in Guyana,” Bowman said, adding “It’s developmental more than competitive with a more fun-based developmental approach.”
Netball Coach, Lavern Fraser-Thomas will be one of the facilitators of the programme, helping to advise the girls of dress code in sports, hygiene and other related matters.
At the end of the weekend, YBG will also identify the top performers to become members of the YBG Elite Girls’ Teams. That team will then play a game against the senior local girls’ team to cap the weekend of activities.
