…residents, relatives not happy
Residents of the Number 58 to Number 60 Village and relatives of a 15-year-old girl of No 59 village who was allegedly abducted and rape by her 47-year-old neighbour, (name given), are not pleased that he was released soon after he was arrested for raping the little girl.
They describe the man as a notorious character—a drug dealer and a back track operative.
According to reports the girl whose mother died over a year ago lives with her father who is a cane harvester, and her nine year old sister.
Last week Thursday, around 08:00 hours, the girl who would usually go to the market and to the shop and would do other household chores was on the road awaiting transportation to go to the market.
The man reportedly came out of the street in his car and offered the girl a lift to the market. She initially refused, but he persisted. The girl said that he told her that he knew her as a neighbour and that he was going in the same direction she was.
She eventually entered the car but the man did not stop at the market, but headed for his other house at Line Path, further up the Corentyne. The girl said that he lives in a lonely street by the seaside.
He reportedly told the girl that he was just going by his house to pick up something and that he would make one thing and take her back to the market and wait for her and take her back home.
He eventually drove into his yard and entered his house, after a while he returned and opened the car door and invited her into his house. She refused and he eventually pulled her out of the car and took her into the house. He then forced her into the bedroom where he undressed and eventually had sex with her.
It is understood that the girl started to scream. After a while she was then told to dress, taken to the car and dropped off at the market.
She did not purchase anything, but returned home. At home she did not cook or do any work. Her utter discomfort was soon noticed by relatives and after some persuasion, in tears she related what happen to her.
The matter was reported and it was confirmed by more that one doctor that she was raped. The man was subsequently arrested and taken into custody, but was later released on $200,000 bail.
Residents are not pleased with how the matter is being handled. They say that he has been offering the family money, but they do not want his money, they want him to be prosecuted.
They noted that he is a high profile individual and leaves the country often. They are not pleased that he is out walking the area. They want his passport seized.
