Only the best will be able to survive with the start of the knock-out stage in the Banks DIH Guinness Greatest of the Streets Football competition taking place in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden.
Sealing their respective spots in this vital stage were Attackers, Retrieve Unknowns, Goal Getters, Amelia’s Ward Russians, Speightland United, Eagles, Coomacka and Half Mile / One Mile.
Amelia’s Ward Russians raced to the biggest win on the night, a 7-0 mauling of $100 Car. Odinga Green led the onslaught of goals with a hat-trick in the 5th, 7th and 15th minute. Travis Watterton (9, 19) and Jermaine Corlette (3, 11) netted two each for the big win.
Attackers sent Star Boys by virtue of a 1-0 win engineered by Troy Duncan’s 17th minute strike.
Retrieve Unknowns surely knew that they had a job to complete against Top Class triumphing emerging 3-1. Darrell George scored a brace (4, 5) with the other goal coming off the boot of Richard Bradford who opened proceedings three minutes into the game.
Top Class, which started the tournament in a blaze of glory were not able to maintain their high octane performances as they bowed out meekly; their lone goal from Junior Angel in the 8th minute. Goal Getters eased past Cherokee Park 2-1 on penalty kicks.
Speightland United advanced 2-1 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 tie in regulation time against Ituni. Scoring in regulation time were Michael Ramdeholl (Speightland) and Shawn Cameron (Ituni).
Eagles soared to a 1-0 win over High Stars which pitched at crunch time. Eagles’ hero on the night was Trenton Banger who banged the nets in the 5th minute.
Coomacka thumped Team 25 – 2-0 – their goals converted by Adrian Edmonson (13) and Kester Thom one minute later, making swift, the demise of Team 25.
Bad Boys were tamed by Half Mile / One Mile on penalty kicks in another exciting dual after the sides battled to a 1-1 regulation time deadlock. Bad Boys had taken the lead in the 12th minute but that advantage was neutralized in the 5th minute by Half Mile / One Mile.
Meanwhile, following are the results from games contested on Saturday last at the New Silvercity Secondary School Hard Court, Richmond Hill edged Ituni in an epic battle 4-3; Mark Moses led Richmodn Hill to the by hitting in a double in the 8th and 9th minute with one goal each from Dwayne Fordyce in the 6th minute and Mark Joseph (19). Ituni, who were always in the hunt for the win as much as Richmond Hill got their goals from Shawn Cameron (13), Nervel Adrian (17) and Ulri Murphy one minute later.
Star Boys were in dismissive form hammering Silver Bullets 3-0. Rocky Flatts netted 9th and 19th minute, Orin Drakes converting in the 15th minute.
Half Mile / One Mile edged Wisroc by the odd goal in three; for the winners, Charles Harvey (5) and Kewin Lane (14) were the players hitting the network with Wisroc’s consolation coming from Seon Warrick 17 minutes on. Train Line Warriors and Eagles battled to a 2-2 tie. Train Line Warriors cantered into the lead early and by the 5th minute were two goals up, Floyd Major (2) and El Griffith (5) being responsible. However, Eagles held their nerves to fire back with a brace of their own late in the second half to share the spoils. Trenton Bangree in the 13th and Delon Charter four minutes later scoring for Eagles.
Retrieve Unknowns and Team 25 played to a 1-1 stalemate.
