A double header at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Trinidad & Tobago on April 22 saw Defence Force FC pass Milerock of Guyana in impressive fashion while the other home team, Caledonia AIA lost a tough battle against Haiti’s Tempete FC.
After losing 0-4 at home, Milerock FC started the match with hopes of evening the score before the end of the game however their opponents had no intention of sitting back and defending their substantial 4 goal lead from the first leg in Guyana.
In fact, Defence Force began raising the bar as early as the 11th minute when number 20, Rodel Elcock scored the first goal of the match.
With the first goal only 11 minutes after the start of the match, the eager energy from Milerock quickly dispersed putting them on the defensive.
As the half wore on, Milerock did manage to attack several times, but near the end of the first half, just when the Guyanese club began showing its spirit once more, in the 43rd minutes, Richard Roy scored the home team’s second goal of the night.
After the half, the game would continue with Defence Force taking the helm and putting even more pressure on their visitors and Richard Roy’s 89th minute goal wrapped up their effort to send Milerock back home and Defence Force on to the CFU Club Champions Cup Finals.
The second match of the evening began in thrilling fashion with both Caledonia AIA and Tempete FC working their magic on the field. Fate would play a part in the result however, when, after only 5 minutes, a hotly contested Tempete 18-yard box resulted in Caledonia’s Akim Armstrong tipping the ball into his opponents net.
Neither team was able to score after that mistake in the 5th minute and Tempete will now return to St. Marc in Southern Haiti with an away goal in the bag, and await Caledonia’s visit to their shores.
Alpha United of Guyana and Defence Force now await the result of Caledonia and Tempete’s match-up as well as CFU Club Champion’s Cup defending champion’s Puerto Rico Islanders’ tie versus Suriname’s Walking Boyz FC.
