The Plaisance/Sparendaam/Goedverwagting Community Development Association and the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) concluded a four-day training programme for school children and other interested persons within the community.
The programme commenced on Monday last, and attracted in excess of 40 students within the area. The participants included both male and females.
National female player, Natalie Cummings and International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Level I Coach/candidate, Jimmy Ramnarayan and National Coach, Linden Johnson conducted the programmes.
President of the Plaisance/Sparendaam/Goedverwagting Community Development Association, Mr. Joseph Benjamin, committee member Brian Bradshaw and Secretary Ms June Halley assisted the GTTA officials with the programmes.
In a brief comment, Benjamin said that the aim of the programme was to get youths to play table tennis and establish the sport within the community.
He said on the first two days there was a good turnout, but because of the Common Entrance Examination the last two days’ attendance was not so good.
Speaking on behalf of the coaches, Ramnarayan stated that they would like to see the sport develop within the communities.
He stated that the initiative of the GTTA President, Greene is a commendable one and they are positive that a few national players and champions will emerge in the near future.
At the conclusion of the programme, each participant received a certificate of participation.
Meanwhile, the GTTA in collaboration with the West Demerara Steering Committee and National Sports Commission will be conducting a series of coaching sessions that which will be open to all interested persons.
