Cops 3 gold; van Lange also impressive
Guyana’s two representatives to the 2011 Carifta Swimming Champions have done their country proud yet again.
Following gold medal swims in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke events, Jessica Stephenson closed out with gold in the 200m Breast. Her entry time of 1:15.28 seeded her first. Stephenson maintained this first place ranking after the preliminaries with a time of 1:16.13, ending the meet with a ‘Hat-Trick’ of gold medals and a clean sweep of the breaststroke events; placing first in the final of the 200m Breaststroke in a time of 1:15.57.
Britany van Lange swam in the 400m Freestyle on the final day which was a timed final and her placement was not known until the fastest heat was completed in the evening session. Her time of 4:50.47 (four and a half seconds better than her entry time of 4.54.96) put her just off of the medal podium in fourth place.
