An Easter weekend outing for a group of friends ended tragically after a young man from ‘C’ Enterprise, East Coast Demerara, drowned. This newspaper was told that 23-year-old Kurt Thornhill’s body was pulled from the river at Itballi on Sunday last, moments after he went under the water.
Reports out of the area stated that Thornhill and his friend went to Bartica for the Easter Regatta, however after being invited by friends to visit Itaballi, Thornill went along for the trip.
While there he and his friends were reportedly playing with a ball in the river. This newspaper was told that persons saw Thornhill going for the ball and thrashing around while going under the water, but somehow though he was joking around.
It was only after Thornhill failed to resurface that persons began a frantic search. His lifeless body was subsequently pulled from the Essequibo River. His body was eventually brought to the Lyken Funeral Home.
A post mortem examination is expected to be done today.
