Dear Editor,
The letter by Charles Ramson (Jr.) Esq., in which he put down and “exposed” my friend, Adam Harris, listing all the places he worked in and quoting from Harris’ writing, was not called for because whatever Ramson might think or say, Adam Harris is one of our most senior journalists in this country.
I saw a piece Adam did on April 21 on TV, highlighting the Maha Sabha and he did a great job; Adam’s voice as he comments and reports, is hard to beat and is clear and concise, while emotionless, the professional way, the only way. Let us all be honest and just look at the present and what do we see? We see Adam Harris printing Ramson’s letter in Kaieteur News (it was also in the Chronicle).
Does anyone think that a letter attacking, let’s say, Ramson’s father who is Attorney General and a public figure would be printed in the Chronicle?
I doubt it and I rest my case because Adam has proven that democracy in the free press is more important than any political motivations. Mr. Ramson (Jr.) should learn that those who throw stones should move out of their glass houses, but better yet, they should just stop.
So what if Adam Harris worked in the PNC government and party structures which Mr. Ramson (Jr.) mentions; don’t tell me that there aren’t persons who work in the PPP government and party structures who are good people, trying to support their families, but who disagree with certain policies of this government.
Because of all the state dominance since independence which has plagued our lives up to this day, a lot of the good people, honest servants of the people – policemen, teachers, journalists, judges etc. – have had to shut up for 45 years, and accept mediocrity, mismanagement and misappropriation wherever they resided in the governmental apparatus, in order to survive .
Mr. Editor, Mr. Ramson (Jr.), Esq., as a lawyer, would know that the law, anywhere in the civilized world, provides for the concept of “reasonable doubt” and as such, based on the above, especially when one politicizes Adam Harris’ situation, one would have to come to the conclusion that Adam could be really innocent of all the things Ramson accuses him of.
As an admirer of the senior Mr. Ramson, Esq., our Attorney General, who has really made a gallant and formidable effort in his tenure, and in a very proactive way, to bring some light at the end of the tunnel in trying to reform and update our justice system, I am surprised that his son would take such an aggressive approach to Adam, a professional journalist to the core; I know Adam would hold no grudges, but just rack it up to youthful but misguided exuberance on Ramson’s part.
Adam Harris’ column in Kaieteur News is one of the few columns I ever read and usually, Adam’s style comes across very positively, like a narrative, with basic observations of Guyanese reality and his take on it, unlike the distortions, contradictions and sheer lying innuendo of Freddie Kissoon’s column.
Adam Harris is a professional journalist who is for free speech and calm rationale and luckily, he’s backed by Mr. Glenn Lall, a fighter for individualism and private enterprise (KN). Don’t worry Adam, journalists are always the punching bags for frustrated politicians, especially those who seek, but cannot find, universal acclaim.
