Ezra Sue-Ho etched his name in history as the first Macorp Open Men’s Singles winner as he outplayed number one seed Jeremy Miller to claim the title in front of a good crowd at the Pegasus Courts on Saturday evening last.
Sue- Ho had a dream match as he repeatedly crunched forehand winners against Miller who could not come to grips with the leftie’s style of play. The match started off evenly as both players held serve to tie the game up at 2-2 before Sue-Ho broke away to take a 5-2 lead. Miller then dug deep to pull back a break but faltered again on his own serve when the score was 5-4 and lost the set as Sue-Ho continuously attacked Miller’s serve with deep forehand returns to set up the point.
Sue-Ho upped the pressure in the second set as he began coming in to the net behind good approach shots and he secured an early break to go up 2-0. The third game was the highlight of the match as a pumped up Miller hit three forehand winners after Sue-ho went ahead 40-0 on his serve. Sue-Ho responded with an ace as he held his nerve and the match went to three deuces before Sue-Ho held serve to break the challenge from Miller.
Miller was finally able to win a game after trailing 0-5 and it was left for Sue-Ho to serve out the match which he did comfortably to complete the 6-4 6-1 win and claim the title.
The tournament concludes this evening at the Pegasus with the presentation ceremony at 6:00 pm.
