While the crowd was not as large as expected on a sunny and windy Easter Monday at the Golden Beach Circuit, Bartica, the 36th Annual Bartica Easter Regatta ended yesterday with many expressing happiness despite not attracting a mammoth crowd.
Smiling broadly for sure were the respective category winners whose efforts over the two days of racing earned them that accolade.
Dominating proceedings yet again were the Belle family as they took away three of the four categories. Ruling the roost in the big boy’s category – 225 to Unlimited – was Randy Belle piloting Wave Runner who notched up two first’s and two second places in four of the five events in his category.
He was leading comfortably in the final race but encountered technical problems and had to exit the race.
Sean Belle (Quicksilver) displayed excellent tact and form in taking the 115-200HP division; Orin Belle (Iron Charlie) ruled the 75-90HP category with Dave Younge (3:16) winning the 25-40HP class. Declared joint winners of the Jet Ski races were Hamley Martindale and Mark Fagundes.
Due to rough waters on the final day, no Canoe races were possible since calm waters were required for such races.
Dave Young continued where he left off on day one with some blistering performances as he chalked up three wins and one second on the final day. The courageous Young stepped up from 25-40HP category to claim one first and a 2nd place in the 75-90HP class.
