Is it accident or robbery?
Thirty-two year-old Khemraj Hariprashad is clinging on to life at the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown hospital, the victim of what appears to be a hit and run accident.
However, his relatives are almost convinced that he is the victim of a brutal robbery by fellow villagers who are trying to disguise it as a vehicular accident.
Hariprashad was reportedly found lying on the parapet of the Canal Number Two Polder Public Road early last week Monday morning, minutes after he left a wedding house in the village.
The persons who initially discovered him claimed that the vehicle they were travelling in had run over an object on the road while they were entering the village earlier the previous night.
They claimed that they returned to the spot where they had struck the object only to discover a man lying unconscious on the parapet.
He was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Hospital where he was immediately admitted.
But according to a relative of the injured man, their suspicions were aroused when they discovered that there was no blood on the road anywhere near where he was allegedly struck down.
There were also no bruises on Hariprashad’s skin as is consistent with an accident.
Further relatives claimed that the large amount of cash that he was carrying as well as the several pieces of gold jewellery he was wearing were missing.
They are convinced that Hariprashad was beaten and robbed of his valuables and then dumped on the road as if he was involved in an accident.
This newspaper understands that the driver of the vehicle which was involved in the alleged accident has been released on bail and investigators are anxiously awaiting Hariprashad’s recovery to get to the bottom of the story.
