An East Canje man has been hospitalised after he drank poison in an effort to take his own life moments after he had inflicted multiple stab wounds on his former lover when she refused to make up with him.
According to reports, Sheneza Mangru 23, a sales clerk of Hazrat General Store in New Amsterdam and of Lot One East Canefield East Canje, was on Saturday stabbed several times about her body by her reputed husband Parbu Rattan 29 as she was walking out of her street on her way to work
According to information the woman and the man were living together for nine years in a common law relationship. After being embroiled in domestic squabbles over time, the woman decided that she had had enough and decided to move out of their Reliance home and relocated to Canefield.
Rattan a cane cutter attached to the Rose Hall Estate and of 7 Reliance East Canje Berbice apparently could not stand the rejection and decided to pursue her in an effort to have her return home.
However, try as he might, the woman refused to make up with him.
On Saturday around 06:00 hours Rattan waited for Mangru and as she was passing he approached her and again tried to persuade her to return home. She refused and was about to continue on her journey when he grabbed on to her and dealt her about 12 stab wounds to various parts of her body with an unidentifiable object.
The woman collapse and was picked up and rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
In the meantime the culprit was confronted by Mangru’s brother.
He told the man “Ah just juk up you sister and drink some poison and you can do what you want.” Soon after, Rattan collapsed.
He was picked up taken to the same hospital, where he remains under police guard.
