Dear Editor,
This UN Year for People of African Descent has now gone one-third and there are precious few months left.
The Government must strive to have the entire nation involved and not merely to organise a few lectures and such like. The African leaders and organisations must put forward programmes since a large sum of money has been voted for use for activities during the year and they should take advantage of it.
All organisations must do their part in assisting African organisations with their programmes. And African organisations must request such help in accordance with accepted Guyanese tradition.
Most important, Government and individuals must focus on the problems affecting Africa and explore how we could help.
This is especially true of the new Asiatic Imperialism which is now insensitively despoiling and exploiting Black Africa.
Guyana and the Caribbean have had a long and honorable part in fighting the old European Imperialism in South Africa, West Africa and other parts with numerous Guyanese and West Indians contributing such as Walter Rodney.
It is the historical duty and responsibility of Guyana to help Africa and fight off the newer, far more rapacious, irresponsible and insensitive Imperialism.
The politicians of Guyana must stop the nonsense of preaching about Gaza and Israel and the Middle East and turn their attention to Africa where much greater injustice is being done.
