Bakewell yesterday recommitted their support of the Rosehall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) when they presented a sponsorship cheque to the vibrant Corentyne, Berbice Club at their East Coast Demerara Head Office at Triumph Village.
RHTYSC’s Executive Hilbert Foster collected the $200,000 cheque from Bakewell’s General Manager Rajindranauth Ganga and informed the Media that Bakewell has supported his club over the last 11 years ‘in good and bad times’ as the official sponsors of their Second division and under-17 cricket teams.
“The success of the Rose Hall Youth and Sports Club over the last 21 years has not been achieved by just dreaming but by sheer hard work, visionary leadership, honesty dedication, faith in our God and the unbelievable support we have received from our donors and sponsors,” Foster told the gathering.
He added that in these difficult economic times it is almost impossible to get sponsors to commit to any relationship much less to a long-term one. He said that to do so require good understanding, trust, faith in each other and most importantly to produce the results the sponsors want for their investments.
Foster said there is no doubt that RHTYSC, winners of the Guyana Cricket Board Club of the year for the past three years, can be described as Guyana’s leading Youth and Sports Club and disclosed that Bakewell has also co-sponsored the club’s TV programme, annual youth Magazine, annual cricket Academy, anti-drugs an pro-education programme, annual Awards Ceremony and the Senior Citizens Christmas luncheon.
“The club’s special relationship with Bakewell has played a major role in the development of players like Royston and Esuan Crandon, Assad Fudadin, Delbert Hicks, Dominic Rikhi, Shawn Pereira and Shemaine Campbell and would continue to do so with others who would go on to play for Berbice, Guyana and the West Indies,” Foster opined.
He said the club has produced 14 Junior Nationals, four seniors and 51 Berbice players at all levels. Royston was played an ODI for the West Indies, Shemaine and Erva Giddings for the West Indies female team, Assad for the West Indies ‘A’ team and Esuan for the West Indies ‘Sixes’ side.
Foster assured the sponsors that his club will continue to represent the Bakewell brand with pride, passion, and commitment and extended special thanks to Mr and Mrs Nasir of Bakewell and to Mr Ganga.
Foster said the club has embarked on setting things in place for the continued success of the club by ‘blooding younger people in key positions to take over from the many over-50 executives’ as the club looks to the future.
He revealed that 13 of the 18 elected to important positions at the clubs last elections are teenagers and boasted that due to the hard work of every member and the success of the club both on an off the field sponsorship is not hard to acquire.
“We have done 122 off the field projects since January last year… our emphasis is on youth development. The same can be said of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) which carried out 72 off-the field projects last year in addition to our success on the field as a county team,” Foster said
He disclosed that both the RHTYSC and the BCB would encounter slight problems from time to time but instead of ‘airing their dirty linen in public’ they work together internally and solve those problems which is why those entities continue to boast a great public image.
“We in Berbice continue to work hard for what’s best for Berbice cricket and its cricketers and we don’t have any ambitions of running for positions on the Guyana Board. We have so many sponsors for competitions that at our last meeting we felt we had too much cricket. We would love to give some to the Guyana Board….We understand that hard work and commitment to the development of our cricket without doing it for personal gains has made us strong and we will continue to work hard with God’s guidance to ensure we continue to strive,” Foster said.
Ganga said Bakewell was proud to be a part of RHTYSC’s sponsorship team and commended the club for their great work both on and off the field. He added that Bakewell supports sports in a big way and will continue to do so since the Company knows that it’s their corporate responsibility to give back to all those who support Bakewell’s products by purchasing them.
Leon Wiggins, RHTYSC’s Treasurer was also present yesterday and handed over a gift to Bakewell as a token of the club’s appreciation for its continued support pf the club.
