Police have almost wrapped up their investigations into Saturday’s shooting incident at Eteringbang which left Venezuelan Arturo Castilla Balcazar, called “Colombian” dead.
Divisional Commander David Ramnarine said last evening that investigators should be in a position to seek the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution some time today. This could see a member of the Guyana Defence Force appearing before the court.
Balcazar, who operated a shop at a place called Arau, was shot dead while captaining a boat with four other persons on the Guyana side of the border with Venezuela.
A statement from the GDF had said that preliminary investigations had revealed that a soldier at the gold mining location may have been responsible for the shooting.
A post mortem examination was performed on Balcazar’s body and according to a source it was consistent with what the investigations revealed.
According to Commander Ramnarine, while the prime suspect in the incident remains in police custody, the two others who were detained with him have been handed back over to army officials.
