Lorell Thomas was yesterday returned to the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court for the continuation of his unlawful possession of ammunition and narcotics case after he was mistakenly brought to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Initially on the first hearing, the matter was transfer to the Christianburg Magistrates’ Court for yesterday but for some strange reason the accused was brought back to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Thomas was remanded by Magistrate Hazel Octive- Hamilton on Tuesday after he pleaded not guilty to the said offences. He is being represented by defense counsel Glenn Hanoman.
The court was told that on April 5, at Millie’s Hideout Backdam, located off the Linden Highway, lawmen found a mining camp and unearthed 28 live .32 rounds. While at the said camp another five .32 spent shells and 153 grams of marijuana were discovered.
A motor car containing personal documents for the accused was also found on the scene.
It was for that reason, that ranks apprehended the accused. During the first hearing, Bert Smith represented Thomas.
Smith, in his bid to secure bail for his client, argued that the accused is gainfully employed as a boat operator for the Omai mining company.
Counsel added that the camp that the police are referring to is an open area which could be easily accessed by many.
Thomas was working in the interior when his family informed him that his vehicle was stolen. But Smith reasoned that the stolen vehicle is not registered in his client’s name.
The lawyer explained that it could probably be the thieves who abandon the car at the camp and made good their escape.
