Christianburg / Wismar and Harmony won their respective engagements as semifinal play in this year’s Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Memorial Secondary Schools Football Competition continued on Tuesday, at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground in the Mining Town of Linden.
In the opening game, Christianburg / Wismar eased to a comfortable 3-1 win over Wisburg with Kwesi Quentin (25th) and Allan Halley (55th, 67th), being the men on target for the winners, while Shawn Allicock (12th) opening the scoring in the match for Wisburg.
In the second encounter, Harmony defeated Linden Foundation by a 5-1 margin.
Colwyn Davids (18th, 28th, 37th), Kwesi Martin (21st) and Vowayne Hamilton netted for the victors, while Paul Trotman (13th) made the lone response for the losers.
Both the defending champions Wisburg Secondary and inaugural Champions Linden Foundation Secondary suffered heavy defeats by two times runners up C.W.S.S. and breakthrough talent Harmony Secondary respectively.
Due to instances of indiscipline both Jamal McKenzie (W.S.S.) and Jermaine Batson (C.W.S.S.) were debarred from any further participation in this year’s tournament.
The second semifinal round is scheduled to be played today, at the same venue, where both defeated teams will try to better their opponents and grab a qualifying spot, through the aggregate goal system being used, for the Grand Finale on Tuesday 3rd May, 2011, at the MSC Ground.
