President of the Guyana Netball Association (GNA) Kim Kyte-John in an e-mail on behalf of the entity expressed shock at the sudden passing of junior national coach Shondel Samaroo, who passed away early yesterday morning following an accident
Here is the text of her message:
“It was great shock to hear of the sudden and untimely death of Shondel Samaroo who was our Secretary of GNA and Manager of 16 and under 16 Netball team.
She had just recently returned from St. Kitts & Nevis with the Under 16 netball players who represented Guyana at the tournament.
She was a committed member of the GNA who always had the players, the sport and association at heart. She would be greatly missed by all.
On behalf of myself, and the Association our deepest heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Samaroo family, friends and relatives and may her soul rest in peace.
May God’s Grace be with them at this time.”
Meanwhile, former President of the GNA Dr. Maxine Parris-Aaron also sent out an e-mail expressing shock at the news of Samaroo’s death.
It read: “Unfortunately, we woke up to the news this morning (Tue) that the Manager, Ms. Shondel Samaroo and Secretary of the Guyana Netball Association died when her motorcycle collided with a mini-bus in the wee hours of the morning in the vicinity of the Cultural Centre. We are still grappling with the information and trying to comfort the players who spent the better part of 2010 and 2011 and as recent as Sunday with her. We also have to keep our eyes out on her two kids (9-10 and 12-13).”
