A 44-year-old contractor became the latest road fatality yesterday, following an accident on the Hauraruni Public Road, Soesdyke/Linden Highway. Dead is Floyd Denzil Washington, of Fourth Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara.
Police sources yesterday said that Washington was a passenger in a 4×4 pickup when the incident occurred at around 09:10hrs.
This newspaper was told that the pickup was proceeding along the Highway when there was a blowout of one of the tyres.
It was reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle which collided with the curb.
Washington was thrown from the vehicle and received massive head injuries.
Jason Boyce, 27, of Annandale, East Coast Demerara, and Gregory Sue, 40, of 74 Castello Housing Scheme, were also injured in the vehicle. The injured men were treated at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
Pamela Singh, the dead man’s reputed wife, yesterday told this publication that she received the message shortly before lunch.
The woman said she was at work when her husband’s employers contacted her. She explained that Washington was a contractor who worked in and out of Georgetown.
Singh said she last saw her husband early yesterday morning when she was about to leave for work.
According to the woman, Washington told her that he was heading up to Kuru Kuru on the Linden Highway.
Singh said by the time she arrived at the hospital her husband was already dead. The woman said she and Washington shared a relationship for the past five years.
He also leaves to mourn a 19-year-old daughter, as well as brothers and sisters.
The driver is in police custody assisting with investigations.
