Simone Samuels was yesterday jailed for three years for having in her control, narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Samuels who was unrepresented pleaded guilty.
The matter engaged the attention of Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The police said that on April 16, last, at 348 Cummings Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, the accused had three grams of cocaine.
According to the police, on the day of the incident, ranks from the police Narcotics Branch were carrying out raids in the area when they received certain information. As a result, they swooped down on a house located at lot 348 Cummings Street, Alberttown and conducted a search on the accused who was the occupant of the said quarter.
The officers unearthed three grams of cocaine concealed in a Crazy Glue tube in the accuser’s right front pants pocket.
Samuel and the suspected cocaine were escorted to the police station where tests were conducted on the substance which turned out to be cocaine.
When asked if she wished to say anything before receiving the penalty for being in possession of an illegal substance, Samuel said “My worship I don’t really want to say nothing”.
The Magistrate then sent the tearful defendant to spend three years at the New Amsterdam Women’s Penitentiary. She was also fined $30,000.
And Aldrehen Adonis, Kefa Small, Kennel Jackson, Francis Garraway and Querrence Terrian were set free by the same Magistrate on a charge of robbery under arms.
The police were alleging that on February 14, 2008 in Georgetown, the five defendants, while being armed with a gun, robbed
Sherwayne Gaspher of several computer components and a cellular phone. During the summary trial Inspector Joel Ricknauth who represented the prosecution was expected to call 12 witnesses.
Only one of the lot took to the witness stand and was examined by the prosecution. During yesterday’s proceedings, the Magistrate informed the prosecution that limited evidence had been put forward by them to prosecute the suspects. The Magistrate stated that the prosecution even failed to establish a prima facie case and because of that she was dismissing the charge.
Following those announcements the accused who were all present in court loudly gave praises for the court’s decision before walking out of the courtroom with broad smiles.
