Police on East Coast Demerara are currently looking for a vehicle which they believe is responsible for smashing two tombs at the Good Hope Cemetery.
Some time between Sunday and yesterday morning residents of the area noticed that two tombs were completely damaged. The coffins were fully exposed with skeletal remains visible to the passing public.
According to reports from the area some time on Sunday night residents heard a loud crash in the location. This newspaper was told that a car was seen in the cemetery but sped away shortly after once it made its way back onto the public road.
Up to late yesterday afternoon the tombs as well as the coffins were still open in full view of the public.
From all indications the relatives of those persons whose tombs were smashed were not informed on the incident.
