Guyana’s Lady Jags will travel to neighboring Suriname on Thursday where they will engage the host nation and their French Guiana counterparts in a three-way Goodwill series aimed at developing the game among females in the Guiana’s.
Guyana Football Federation President, Colin Klass, who is part of a special Committee formed by the three countries to collaborate on areas of development, disclosed that this series has been in the pipeline for some time now and the three Federation Presidents and happy that it has become reality.
The three countries have been playing at the national and club levels for some time now and will soon also incorporate the junior departments.
The Lady Jags have been preparing at the GFC Ground since April 10 and have been showing encouraging signs of progress.
Head Coach of the team, Canadian based Guyanese Aubrey Bacchus speaking with Kaieteur Sport stated that he is here to assist with general development of the team. Bacchus, who said he has been in the business of coaching for many years described the 22-players encamped as a very good bunch of players that needs polishing.
“This is a good bunch of players and for them to improve and get even better; they must be together on a long term basis for them to get better.”
The majority of the players are below the age of 20 with a few who have played at the senior level for Guyana including Goalkeeper Ronette Cort who represented the Lady Jags in Mexico last year.
Assistant Coach Sharon Abrams is also helping to fine tune the players ahead the Suriname tour which will be from April 21-26. Other members of the Technical staff are Ryan Prias, Chevon Monchoir, Andrea Fredericks and Andrew Hazel.
The players encamped are: Leonie Robinson, Roxanne Stephenson, Sasha Greaves, Diane Manlokin, Shevon Edwards, Jamaica Bryan, Mitera Thomas, Ruth George, Neeshana Castello, Norleen Rogers, Odessa Romeo, Cindy Alexander, Akeilah Castello, Jameila Smith, Ronette Cort, Charmaine Wade, Shennel Daniels, Malesha Gamble, Melissa Williams, Sana Griffith, Lynette Feidtkou and O’Donna Bukley.
