The second annual National Communications Network Under-15 Inter Zone cricket tournament is set to bowl off on Wednesday with two matches.
The tournament, organised by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) will this year see five teams competing, one up from last year. The BCB made the decision to allow Central Corentyne to play as a single team after playing as a combined unit with Upper Corentyne; this move was made as part of the developmental thrust of the Board.
Central Corentyne will travel to Scottsburg Cricket Ground in Corriverton to play Upper Corentyne on Wednesday while West Berbice would host New Amsterdam/Canje at the Blairmont Community Centre ground.
Lower Corentyne who drew the bye in the first round would clash with the winner of the Central and Upper Corentyne in the lone semifinal on Thursday at the Area ‘H’ Ground.
The winner of West Berbice and New Amsterdam/Canje match on Wednesday will advance to the final which is scheduled for next week.
All matches would be played on a fifty (50) overs per team basis. Chairman of the Berbice Cricket Board Competitions Committee Carl Moore disclosed that with the addition of Central Corentyne, the Berbice Selectors will have more players to look at before selecting the best possible Berbice Cellink Under-15 team.
This move is also an effort by the Board to provide players from the Central Corentyne are to excel and to develop to the next level. Public Relations Officer and Chairman of the Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster made a call for parents of all Under-15 players to turn up at the matches and support their children.
The Berbice Cellink Inter County team for the upcoming Under-15 Guyana Cricket Board tournament would be selected after the finals of this competition.
