Seven dogs attacked a 13-year-old boy early Thursday morning while he was returning home from a shop in the neighbourhood.
Yognauth Shopaul, of Third Street, Adelphi Settlement, East Canje, was bitten about his body by the pack of dogs owned by a woman (name given).
According to the boy’s mother, Kowsilla Shopaul, it is not the first time that persons in the settlement have been attacked by the animals. She added that the woman apparently is not very concerned about the incidents.
“Seven dogs attacked him and throw him down in front of the street”, she said. “They biting other people; from five-year-old children going up. And it’s a regular something that’s happening in the settlement.”
“The point is she is having a problem with the neighbourhood because she is leaving the gate open. She is not closing the gate at no time and she is an R.C. [Rural Constable] and I think she should do something about it,” the mother added.
According to the boy’s relatives, because the woman is an officer attached to the Community Policing Group (CPG) and they allege that the police are not taking the matter as serious as they should.
“I don’t want no settlement; I want somebody to come and look after the dogs”, Shopaul said.
She added that one of other sons was bitten by the dogs a few weeks ago and a five-year-old was bitten last week while a woman who does domestic work was bitten on Wednesday.
The police say that they are awaiting a medical report from the New Amsterdam Hospital after which the matter will be engaging the attention of the courts.
Kaieteur News tried to secure a comment from the woman but that proved futile since the reporter was only met with seven ferocious dogs barking behind a closed gate.
