Man breaks reputed wife’s arm

Despite all efforts of Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Priya Manickchand, to curb domestic abuse faced by women in the society, women continue to experience brutality by their spouses.
Thirty-two-year-old Sunita Darbonauth of 51 New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, is now hospitalised after she was allegedly brutalised by her spouse Mahindra Persaud, 23.
The assault followed an argument yesterday that was rooted in jealousy.
She sustained a broken arm and other injuries to her body.
Reports are that Persaud and Darbonauth often argued about her flirting at her work place with other men and on several occasions he would hit her.
According to the woman, Persaud threatened to kill her on Friday. She said that she reported the threat to the police hoping that they would arrest him since she feared for her life.
She added that she was informed by an officer that there is no vehicle at the moment and that if she wanted them to come she would have to go for them. The victim said that she went for the police but by the time she got home Persaud was gone.
Darbonauth further stated that her spouse came home yesterday and upon entering the house he started to brutally attack her.
“After he beat me up bad, I was helpless but he was not satisfied. He went for a six by four wood and lash me all over with it then left.”
She stated that she cannot recall what happened after that but when she regained consciousness she went to the Vreed-en-Hoop police station and made and a report.
Darbonauth explained that the police sent her to get a medical at Georgetown Public Hospital and assured her that they will find Persaud and he would be punished.
It was reported that ranks of the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station are investigating the matter.
