Police are hunting for a gunman who shot 56-year-old village captain, Wilbert Hall, three times while robbing him of $1M at a Chinese restaurant in Co-op Crescent, Linden.
Hall, who is the toshao of Malali Mission, Upper Demerara, was shot in the abdomen while struggling with the gunman who had snatched his briefcase.
He has been admitted to the Mackenzie Hospital where his condition is listed as stable.
According to reports, Hall, who has six children, was drinking a beverage at the Heng Fung Restaurant at around 21:45 hrs when a man suddenly snatched at Hall’s bag, which was on the floor.
Hall held onto the bag and a scuffle ensued during which the man suddenly drew a handgun and shot Hall three times in the abdomen.
The bandit then ran outside the restaurant with Hall’s bag, which contained $1M and personal documents. He then escaped with an accomplice on a motorcycle.
Kaieteur News understands that the suspects were seen heading in the direction of Georgetown. They reportedly passed a police roadblock, since the ranks had not been informed about the robbery.
A police official said that the gunman, who goes by the name of Joel Graham, is a regular visitor to the restaurant.
Some Linden residents said that the restaurant where Hall was shot is frequented by unsavory individuals and are urging police to conduct regular patrols in the area.
